Investment Management in Monmouth Beach

We manage your portfolio around your goals and your calendar. You get a written plan for how your money is invested, set dates for reviews and rebalancing, and a clear heads-up when something needs to change, so you always know what happens next and when.

Investment management, explained plainly

Investment management is the ongoing work of choosing, monitoring and adjusting the holdings in your accounts. It sits inside the larger picture of financial planning. The plan sets the goals, and the portfolio is built to serve them. We choose a mix of stocks, bonds and cash suited to your timeline and to how much movement you can comfortably sit through, then keep it on course.

Our approach is shaped by the calendar. Before we place a single trade, you know when we will review the accounts, when we rebalance and how long each step of a transfer usually takes. When markets or your life change the plan, we call you, explain what moved and agree on the next date together.

We meet clients at our office, or by phone and video for those in Rumson, Red Bank and across the area.

What our investment management covers

An allocation built from your goals

We set the split between growth and stability from your time horizon, income needs and comfort with market swings. You see the target mix in writing before anything is bought.

Account consolidation and transfers

Many clients arrive with old 401(k)s, an IRA and a brokerage account at three different firms. We map them out, tell you which transfers make sense and give you a realistic timeline, since some firms take a week or more to release assets.

Scheduled rebalancing

Markets pull a portfolio away from its target over time. We check for drift on a set calendar and rebalance when it crosses limits we agreed on, rather than reacting to every headline.

Tax-aware placement

We consider which holdings belong in taxable accounts and which belong in retirement accounts, and we watch for chances to harvest losses. For deeper work, this connects with our tax management service.

Plain reporting

You receive regular summaries of what you own, how it has done against its target and any changes we made, with the reasons written in plain language.

Signs it is time for investment management

Accounts scattered across firms
If you cannot say what you own in total, you likely cannot say whether it fits your goals. Bringing everything into one view is the first step.
The same mix for ten years
A portfolio set up at 40 rarely suits someone nearing retirement. If no one has adjusted it, the risk may no longer match your timeline.
Selling when the news turns bad
If market drops push you to act on instinct, a written plan and a set review date give you something steadier to lean on.
A large change in your money
An inheritance, a business sale or a lump-sum pension choice deserves a deliberate plan for how and when it is invested.
No time to keep up
Managing a portfolio well takes hours each month. Some clients would rather spend those hours elsewhere and hear from us on a known schedule.

How we take on your portfolio

  1. 1

    Introductory meeting

We talk through your goals, your current accounts and what has worked or frustrated you before. You leave knowing whether we are a good fit and what the next step would be.

  2. 2

    Review and written proposal

You share recent statements and we study the holdings, costs and tax position. Within a window we agree on together, we present a written proposal showing the target allocation and how our fee works.

  3. 3

    Transition on a timeline

Once you approve, we open accounts and start the transfers. We give you an expected date for each one and tell you promptly if another firm holds things up.

  4. 4

    Ongoing reviews

We put review meetings on the calendar well ahead, at our office or by video. Between them, we watch the accounts and call you if anything needs a decision from you.

What shapes the cost of investment management

Fees for investment management depend on the size and shape of what we look after. We explain exactly how our fee is calculated during the proposal stage, in writing, before you commit. No new charges appear later without a conversation first.

Assets we manage
The amount under management is the main driver. Larger portfolios often call for a different fee arrangement than smaller ones.
Number and type of accounts
A single IRA is simpler to manage than trusts, joint accounts, custodial accounts and a business retirement plan held together.
Tax complexity
Large unrealized gains or a concentrated stock position take more care when we reposition or sell.
How often we meet
Some clients want quarterly reviews and others prefer twice a year. Meeting frequency affects the time involved.
Underlying fund costs
Separate from our fee, the funds themselves carry expense ratios. We list these in the proposal so you see the full cost of the portfolio.

Investment management questions

Can you promise a certain return?
No, and no honest advisor can. What we can do is build a portfolio with a level of risk that suits your goals, show you what a normal bad year might look like for it and keep it on track through the cycle.
How long does it take to move my accounts over?
Many transfers between firms take a week or two, though some older employer plans and annuities take longer. We give you an expected date for each account and call you if any of them run late. You can follow each transfer on your statements as it moves.
Do I give up control of my accounts?
Your accounts stay in your name. We manage the investments within the limits you approve, and you can see every holding and transaction whenever you like.
What happens when the market drops sharply?
We review the portfolio against its target and call you if a decision is needed. Often the right move is to rebalance or simply hold, and we explain why either way. You will not be left wondering whether anyone is watching.
How often will we meet?
We agree on a review schedule at the start and set the dates months ahead, at our office, by phone or by video. If your plans shift, we move the meeting and confirm the new date with you.
How is this different from wealth management?
Investment management focuses on the portfolio itself. Wealth management adds planning around retirement, taxes, insurance and legacy. Many clients start with one and add the other as their needs grow.
